One hot summer's day, when Mole is out exploring, he discovers a newcomer to the forest called Mouse! The two quickly become friends, but Mole isn't keen to introduce Mouse to the other forest animals. In fact, he doesn't want to share her with anyone.

Mole thinks his burrow is small and dark and dull. So he sets off to find somewhere big and bright and beautiful instead. His friends are full of ideas, but finding a new home that is just right is, as Mole discovers, no simple matter - and in the end he settles for the home he already has.
